OHALAH
Rabbis, Cantors and Rabbinic Pastors
Available to Officiate at Same Sex Ceremonies
OHALAH is an acronym for Ogudat HArabbanim L’hithAdshut Hayahadut
which, in English, means Association of Rabbis for Jewish Renewal.
In addition to a small international membership of Rabbis,
OHALAH has a Cantorial Committee of qualified Cantors
and we are the umbrella organization for
the Rabbinic Pastor Association (“RPA”)
OHALAH and the RPA are part of the professional branch of
ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal
Jewish Renewal is the newest stream of Judaism
Founded in 1962 by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi
“We welcome and recognize the sanctity of every individual regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We recognize respectful and mutual expressions of adult human sexuality as potentially sacred expressions of love and therefore we strive to welcome a variety of constellations of intimate relationships and family forms including gay, lesbian, and heterosexual relationships as well as people choosing to be single.”
- from the ALEPH Statement of Principles
As of this writing, the following countries, and states of the United States of America, allow same sex marriage: The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada and the states of Massachusetts and California.
The following countries, and states in the United States of America, currently allow same-sex registered partnerships or civil unions or provide some form of spousal rights for gay and lesbian couples:
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, France, Germany, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Britain, and the states of Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Oregon, Maine, Washington, and Hawaii.
The clergy listed below officiate at same sex ceremonies appropriate to the area where they live and practice. Many are able to travel to perform ceremonies for couples of the opposite sex and the same sex.Ohalah members wishing to join this list email Rabbi Pam Frydman Baugh at pbfrydman@yahoo.com
